Ramsi Kamar: A Local Food Hero

All Hero Nominee AmericanTowns Hero

"We learn how to farm from the heart" was a recent post on the Facebook page of Raising Hope Farm, which is a place filled with both beauty and promise. The mission of the farm is "To raise organic food. To raise consciousness. To raise standards." and they add that "Hope stands for Healthy Organic Produce for Everyone." The farm was the vision of Ramsi Kamar who was recently named a local food hero for his efforts to improve the quality of food produced and served to the members of his community and the customers in his cafe. Ramsi is also known as a local business owner who finds jobs for those who need them and gives people a chance to get back on their feet. At a time when fast food is being blamed for delivering empty calories in the name of convenience, the slow food movement is gaining momentum and local farmers are being recognized for striving to raise food standards in their communities. Ramsi's efforts at the farm are paying off as it is now the first USDA certified organic farm in Jefferson County. In addition to the health benefits, eating local is a way to support local farmers while you enjoy the freshness of locally grown food. Do you know someone who had a vision for introducing a healthier way of living to their community and gathered the resources and support to make it a reality? Nominate them for next week's AmericanTown's Heroes.
