Stan Mack Gives His All for His Town

AmericanTowns Hero

Stanley "Stan" Mack is a local hero who cares deeply about his town and its inhabitants. For more than 30 years, Mr. Mack has been at the center of many of the town's initiatives to grow with the changing times, while still maintaining the best aspects of a small community. As a volunteer firefighter and fire chief for many years, he is credited with working not only to secure donations to upgrade the town's fire truck, but going one step further—getting involved in the design specifications as well as locating the best manufacturer that could meet the unique needs of the town and still stay within their budget. His involvement as a board member of many other volunteer organizations keeps him active in discussions relative to the health and safety of his town, like meetings to discuss the emergency medical needs of the town as well as how funds are spent during critical school board meetings. Stan and his wife Pat, are also business owners, responsible for maintaining a vibrant community cafe, called Mack's Place Eatery—reminiscent of a time when people took the time to sit and chat with their neighbors about their families and their towns. They are also generous donors and supporters of their local treasures, like the Nature Museum at Grafton and while Stan recently retired from his duties as fire chief, he still carries his beeper, heads out on calls when he is needed and was active during Hurricane Irene, rescuing those stranded by the devastating floods, including a young woman trapped on top of her car. Like the person who nominated Stan said: "Stan Mack stands strong for the Grafton 'that used to be' and, he isn’t afraid to step in and do what it takes to keep it that way!"
