The 16th Annual FMF AMA Texas Winter Series is less than two months away but the work started over six months ago to provide the best racing possible for the best racers in the state of Texas and abroad. Many of the classes that were offered two years ago return for 2016 with the intent of offering the youngest riders the fairest, most competitive classes to date.
The AMA Texas Winter Series offers more peewee classes than anywhere in the United States hands-down. The 50cc Air Cooled (4-8) class leads off an amazing lineup for the peewee division to help keep cost down for the true beginners of motocross. Once riders move to the water-cooled 51cc bikes, the age groups have the standard 51cc (4-6) and 51cc (7-8). For 2016 the Texas Winter Series will present the 51cc (4-5) and 51cc (6-7). To cap off the peewee classes, the 51cc (4-8) Open offers a chance for everyone to come together.
The Beginners of the motocross were not forgotten. The AMA Texas Winter Series offers riders that have never raced prior to January 1, 2015 many options. Starting with the Beginner 65-85cc (7-11) and Beginner Mini Sr (12-16), riders on mini-cycles have a great opportunity to compete against their peers. The Texas Winter Series also offers big bike riders the Beginner 125-450 class. The ladies of our sport were not forgotten either. Returning is the Girls Jr (9-13), Girls Sr (12-16) along with the Womens 14+.
The "major" change for 2016 is for restriction of ages on 250cc and 450cc motorcycles. Beginning this new season, riders under 14 years old will not be allowed to compete on anything larger than a 125cc bike. Additionally, riders under 16 years old will not be allowed to ride a bike larger than 250cc. These changes will take effect beginning with the AMA Texas Winter Series. This will bring the ages closer together and more competitive very quickly.
