11:00 AM - 3:00 PM: Juneteenth Block Party at AAMP

Celebrate the history, culture, and legacy of Juneteenth with the African American Museum in Philadelphia at its Juneteenth Block Party: Celebrating the Legacy of Emancipation. In partnership with Wawa, Welcome America, Inc., and VISIT PHILADELPHIA®, AAMP will host a daylong, family-friendly outdoor festival that features a rich lineup of the region’s best and brightest creative luminaries.

Guests will enjoy live performances from international and local artists, a community marketplace featuring Black-owned businesses, vendors, community partners, and food trucks, and hands-on activities including art-making, line dancing, and more! Courtesy of Wawa, AAMP will also offer FREE admission to the Museum with online registration.

10:00 AM - 2:00 PM: Free Admission to the Historic Rittenhouse Town

The first permanent home for the Rittenhouse family (and birthplace of David Rittenhouse), the 1707 Rittenhouse Homestead is located across the Paper Mill Run from the site of the ca. 1702 mill.  This structure housed eight generations of the Rittenhouse family. Originally three rooms, The Homestead was expanded to nearly double its size. At the same time, the Bake House was built ca. 1725. With its impressive 16½ foot hearth, the Bake House fed generations of Rittenhouse family and mill workers.

Each year, Philadelphia Parks & Recreation joins residents and city leaders to celebrate the opening of the City’s dozens of public swimming pools. This year, we are celebrating the ribbon cutting of the brand-new Francis Lederer Pool at Fishtown Rec (lovingly known as “The Swimmo” to locals), which is opening for the first time in 6 years!

Kids can drum to the beat with the West Powelton Steppers and Sixers Stixers, or chill out and listen to a pop-up story with the Free Library of Philadelphia and score a free book courtesy of Books in Homes USA. Plant some herbs from Burpee Gardening with Penn Food and Wellness Collaborative, and learn about pollinators with the Philadelphia Insectarium & Butterfly Pavilion. Kids will get a taste of the Philadelphia Museum of Art’s summer long art kids program with a hands-on art project, and much more!

11:00 AM - 5:00 PM: Pay What You Wish Day at Shofuso Japanese Cultural Center

As part of this year’s Wawa Welcome America celebration, pay a visit to Shofuso Japanese Cultural Center in West Fairmount Park, Philadelphia! Visitors are invited to tour the house and feed the koi fish that swim in a pond under a 75-year-old weeping cherry tree, as well as explore the beautiful Japanese garden landscape that stretches for more than an acre. Shofuso is also home to the largest collection of murals by artist Hiroshi Senju outside of Japan.

Eastern State Penitentiary was once the most famous and expensive prison in the world, but stands today in ruin, a haunting world of crumbling cellblocks and empty guard towers. Experience Eastern State’s historic cell blocks as the sun goes down with a special free evening of Night Tours: Summer Twilight. Admission Includes “The Voices of Eastern State” Audio Tour, history exhibits like Al Capone’s Cell, exhibits about prisons today, and over a dozen artist installations. Plus, grab a drink, relax, and connect in the Fair Chance Beer Garden where you can participate in hands-on activities like letter-writing, trivia, and collaborative art. John Heinz National Wildlife Refuge at Tinicum is part of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s National Wildlife Refuge System, a network of lands set aside for the benefit of native wildlife and plants. Established in 1972 through local activism, the refuge protects habitat for the benefit of both people and wildlife. Visitors to the refuge may observe hundreds of species of plants, trees, birds, insects and mammals.

In honor of Police Athletic League’s 75th Anniversary join Wawa for an official ribbon cutting and exciting unveiling of the refreshed Southwest PAL Center, beautifully transformed into a safe and welcoming facility thanks to associate volunteers who devoted a day of cleaning, gardening, painting and more! The surrounding community is invited to enjoy refreshments from Wawa and hear firsthand how the center represents a true legacy of the Wawa Welcome America festival and the lasting impact on our community!

The Masonic Temple in Philadelphia was constructed in 1873. It is considered one of the great “wonders” of the Masonic world. Resplendent with artwork, frescos, stained glass, murals and sculpture, it is a visual treasure just waiting to be discovered by the general public. It connects both Masons and non-Masons alike to an inspirational world of art and architecture, history and grandeur. In addition, there is also an exhibit hall, featuring a wide assortment of treasures from Philadelphia’s, America’s and Freemasonry’s past.

10:00 AM - 8:30 PM: Pay What You Wish Day At The Rodin Museum

The Rodin Museum, a beloved cultural gemstone in a verdant setting along the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, contains one of the?largest collections?outside of Paris of the works of Auguste Rodin (1840-1917), one of the great sculptors of all time. The garden around the iconic building showcases eight major works, including The Thinker and The Gates of Hell. Some of these celebrated bronzes occupy the same locations in which they were installed when the museum first opened in 1929. A seasonal pop-up, the Rodin Garden Bar will serve beer, wine, craft cocktails and tasty small plates on Friday evenings in the scenic garden (weather permitting).

Arch Street Meeting House is both a museum and active Quaker place of worship that was built in 1804 on property originally deeded to the Religious Society of Friends by William Penn as a burial ground. In fact, approximately 20,000 burials occurred on Arch Street Meeting House’s historic grounds! Step inside this active Quaker meeting house to learn more about the stories of the people, the building, and the grounds of Arch Street.

The Avenue of the Arts comes to life with entertainment, art, food and more! 12:00 PM - 4:00 PM: Pay What You Wish Day At Johnson House Historic Site

Johnson House Historic Site, Inc. is one of Philadelphia’s few accessible, intact historic sites and stops on the Underground Railroad open for tours. During the 19th century, and for several generations beyond, the Johnson House was owned by a family of Quaker abolitionists who worked with other European Americans, and African Americans — free and enslaved – to secure safe passage to freedom along the extensive network of clandestine routes and safe houses known as the Underground Railroad. When visiting, you will acquire an understanding of the audacious men and women who labored for the freedom of others and gain an appreciation for the courageous decisions made by enslaved Africans to embark on a perilous, hope-filled journey to freedom.

Paul Leroy Robeson was a Renaissance man who spent most of his life fighting injustice, for which he was roundly persecuted. He was an actor, orator, athlete, lawyer, singer, author, scholar, activist and linguist. Most of all, the “tallest man in the forest” – he stood 6-foot-3 – was an authentic American Hero.

The Neon Museum of Philadelphia is dedicated to preserving historic signage as an important element of community heritage in Philadelphia and America. The collection is complemented by artifacts, photos, oral histories, and descriptive narratives. Through changing exhibitions and events, a video archive and a browsing library, the Museum also promotes neon art and appreciation of the 20th-century American roadside.

Paul Robeson Exhibit: His Movies – His Music – His Message

Experience the virtuosity of Paul Robeson in an exciting new exhibit that transports you to the artistic world that he once “owned.” In a Hollywood-style setting, witness his performances in “Othello” in London and New York. Watch him transform himself into characters in “Emperor Jones” and “Show Boat,” where he made “Ol’ Man River” a star. Listen to him sing across the Atlantic and the Canadian border in defiance of government restrictions aimed at silencing him. He was a man bent on freedom.

Join us for a moving and uplifting performance starring gospel legend Yolanda Yvette Adams, alongside the Welcome America Mass Choir under the direction of Austin Woodland and Zak Williams, showcasing talented singers from across the city with a special performance by The Talented Tenors. This year’s performance, hosted by WDAS Patty Jackson, is an Ode to Freedom, celebrating the 200th Anniversary of Harriet Tubman. Limited seating available on a first-come first-serve basis.

10:30 AM - 11:30 AM: Red, White & Blueprint – Help Plan Philly’s Celebration of the Nation’s 250th in 2026

Philadelphia has always played a major role in hosting previous national anniversaries from 1876, 1926, and 1976, and soon to be 2026, with the 250th anniversary. With each one, special buildings or monuments were constructed as legacy projects such as Memorial Hall, the Benjamin Franklin Bridge and the African American Museum of Philadelphia. Hosted by PHILADELPHIA250, the nonprofit leading the City of Philadelphia’s 250th plans, this free and family-friendly event invites the people of Philadelphia – especially its youngest residents – to help shape the programs and experiences that will serve as our city’s legacy for the 250th and help build a stronger, more resilient city for all. PHILADELPHIA250 will be unveiling the semi-finalists for its Leave a Legacy grant program, a public call for community-sourced projects that will strengthen Philadelphia’s neighborhoods in 2026 and beyond. The event will feature live music, kid-friendly activities, 250th idea collection and more.

As part of Wawa Welcome America, Wawa invites all visitors to enjoy free admission at the National Constitution Center and an array of patriotic festivities surrounding the Fourth of July—including the interactive Independence Day show, exploring the history of the Declaration of Independence and how the definition of “We the People” has expanded since Thomas Jefferson penned the famous words “…all men are created equal…” in 1776.

Join Wawa for historic Hoagie Day Tributes to our Local Heroes, featuring 7-tons of FREE Wawa Hoagies served at Noon along Independence Mall, and a performance by the Six String Soldiers of The United States Army String Band. And, over 960 stores chainwide will celebrate Hoagie Day® in their local communities by building and donating more than 30,000 hoagies to local first responders and community heroes serving their neighborhoods – all in one day! The American Swedish Historical Museum welcomes all people to explore cultural identity through the story of Swedes and Scandinavians in America. Come and explore the New Sweden Colony and both historical and modern cultural connections with Sweden through engaging exhibits and events.

Wyck is a National Historic Landmark house, garden, and farm in the Germantown neighborhood of Philadelphia that served as the ancestral home to one Philadelphia family for nine generations (1690-1973). Here, traditional Quaker culture blended with a passion for innovation. The people who lived and worked at Wyck expressed these values through their commitment to education, horticulture, natural history, and preservation.

AAMP’s Summer Solstice will welcome international recording artist and Philadelphia icon, Barbara Sheree, as host for a night of live music, performance, and improv. PhilaLandmarks is partnering with the Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia to present Orchestra in the Garden, a free concert at the Powel House on Friday, July 1st at 3 p.m. The Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia presents a program of Classical and Baroque music that would have been known and loved by Philadelphia’s own Benjamin Franklin. Italian Baroque composers like Corelli and Boccherini were known to populate the Founding Father’s personal libraries, while in Paris, Franklin and Jefferson met and admired Mozart and Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de Saint-Georges. Celebrate Independence Day in our nation’s birthplace listening to the favorite music of Philadelphia’s most famous revolutionary. This program was made possible by PNC Arts Alive.

Artists from Olive Dance Theatre and We The People Stage will use spoken word, dance, and song to portray personal and historical stories rooted in passionate expressions of freedom. Guests will be invited to be part of the performance by joining the storytelling stage hosted by Emmy-Award Winning content creator Thomas C. Knox. Stenton is one of the earliest, best-preserved, and most authentic historic houses in Philadelphia. Completed in 1730 as a country-seat, plantation house for James Logan – Secretary to William Penn; merchant, politician, justice, scientist, and scholar – Stenton was home to six generations of the Logan family, as well as a diverse community of servants and enslaved Africans, including Dinah, who lived and labored at Stenton for over 50 years. Furnished with 18th- and 19th-century Logan family objects, and remaining in little-altered condition, a visit to Stenton offers an unparalleled experience of early Pennsylvania.

PECO Free First Sunday Family Day

Every first Sunday of the month, families and friends can enjoy free access to the Barnes collection and special exhibition, plus music and performances, story time, and art-making activities. In July, the Barnes partners with the Charles L. Blockson Afro-American Collection at Temple University to present a full day of activities inspired by Blockson’s recent exhibition and graphic novel, Black Lives Always Mattered! (BLAM!). Access to the Barnes collection and Isaac Julien: Statues Never Die exhibition are included.

The Philly POPS continues its 43-year Independence tradition with POPS on Independence. The POPS will perform an original program created and conducted by Music Director and Principal Conductor David Charles Abell, featuring Grammy & Tony nominee, Hamilton star Joshua Henry. The program will feature patriotic standards, pop favorites, and more. A Philadelphia tradition, this performance is part of The Philly POPS Salute Series, honoring our nation’s traditions, values, and commitment to service.

Attendees are encouraged to bring a chair or blanket. Beginning at 5 PM, on 5th Street outside The Bourse Food Hall, guests are invited for entertainment, food, and fun before the start of the show.

Established in 1976, and situated on Philadelphia’s Independence Mall, the Weitzman National Museum of American Jewish History is the only museum in the nation dedicated exclusively to exploring and interpreting the American Jewish experience. The Weitzman presents educational programs and experiences that preserve, explore, and celebrate the history of Jews in America. Its purpose is to connect Jews more closely to their heritage and to inspire in people of all backgrounds a greater appreciation for the diversity of the American Jewish experience and the freedoms to which Americans aspire. Now on view: Deborah Kass’s OY/YO outdoor sculpture, “The Future Will Follow the Past: An Exhibition by Jonathan Horowitz,” and more.

10:00 AM - 11:00 AM: Celebration of Freedom Ceremony

Kick off Philadelphia’s premier celebration of July 4th where it all began – Independence Hall – with a patriotic ceremony celebrating those who make Philadelphia, the region, and our country a better place. The ceremony is televised on NBC10 and features special guests, a reading of the Declaration of Independence, Mayor Jim Kenney’s Magis Award presentation, the reveal of the Wawa Foundation Hero Award winner and Freedom Mortgage’s Celebrate Freedom Award. Produced in partnership with the Office of City Representative.

This event is free and open to the public. Tickets not required. Limited seating available on a first come first served basis. Event begins at 10 AM and will be televised at 6 PM on NBC10.

The parade returns with a new route and dynamic elements from nine states that are sure to create a flurry of patriotism and red, white and blue. With Miss America 2022, Emma Broyles, as the grand marshal, guests will enjoy lavish floats, United States Military units, marching bands, cultural groups, dance performances, historical characters, and much more!

11:00 AM - 5:00 PM: Free Museum Day At Christ Church and Burial Ground

Founded in 1695, Christ Church has been cited as “the finest specimen of Colonial architecture standing.” During the Revolutionary Era, it hosted the Continental Congresses and counted Benjamin Rush, Benjamin Franklin and Betsy Ross among its members. “No church has played a more significant role in our nation’s birth,” according to David McCullough. Christ Church and its Burial Ground receive over 250,000 visitors annually, making Christ Church one of the most visited historic sites in Philadelphia. The Christ Church Campus is also home to the Neighborhood House – a performance venue in Old City.

This summer, Christ Church will celebrate “Signers Day” on July 3rd including free activities for families & special tours, Free Museum Day on July 4th including special tours and history hunts. A free concert given by the Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia will be offered at Christ Church and a free performance of The American Revolution – The Show! Will be presented at the Christ Church Burial Ground.

The Party on the Parkway is back  and the entertainment is non-stop! Get ready to be wowed with three performance stages – Pennsylvania Lottery Groove Stage, Chill Moody Music Stage and the Rumba 106.1 Dance Party. Enjoy a day-long party jam packed with entertainment, games, food trucks, giveaways and more! Kids can enjoy activities and fun at the PECO Kids Zone, along with a book giveaway courtesy of Books in Homes USA. The festival culminates with a star-studded concert back on the Parkway, featuring performances by award-winning singer/songwriter Jason Derulo and multiple-platinum selling popstar Ava Max, followed by a breathtaking fireworks display. While fireworks light up the sky, DJ Ghost and Q102 will light up the airwaves with a DJ set fully synced to 4th of July Fireworks display. Concert and Fireworks televised live on NBC10 & TeleXitos. .

9:45 PM - 10:00 PM: Wawa Welcome America Fireworks Spectacular

Courtesy of Wawa, the tradition of July 4th fireworks returns to the iconic Benjamin Franklin Parkway. Beginning at 8 p.m., guests are welcome to gather from Eakins Oval to Logan Circle to enjoy this rousing and patriotic festival grand finale. The official fireworks soundtrack will air on The Breeze 106.1 FM.  The complete fireworks spectacular will be broadcast live on NBC10 and TeleXitos.
