440 Gallery announces the Call for Entries for our annual Small Works Show 2022. This national, juried exhibition celebrates the innovation of artists who create work on a small scale in a broad range of media and styles. The exhibition will be on display in the 440 Gallery, Park Slope, Brooklyn space from November 17 to December 16.

ABOUT THE CURATOR
We are delighted to have Johnny Thornton as this show’s juror. Born in Connecticut, Thornton spent his childhood in Johannesburg, South Africa, before moving to Tucson, Arizona. After teaching himself to paint, he went on to study Fine Arts at the University of Arizona. Thornton relocated to New York City, where he received his Master of Fine Arts from Parsons the New School for Design in 2012.

Thornton has had work exhibited widely, and he has had several recent solo shows in New York City. His work is part of several collections. Currently, Thornton works out of his studio and is the Owner/Director of Established Gallery in Brooklyn. Thornton is also the Executive Director for Arts Gowanus, a non-profit organization working to support, promote, and advocate for local artists and a sustainable arts community in Brooklyn.

ELIGIBILITY: Artists must be 18 years or over and reside in the U.S. All artworks must be 12 inches or less in all directions (including frame), all small performances must be 60 seconds or less. All media will be considered.

SALES: All artwork must be for sale. The gallery will take a 40% commission on all work sold.

ENTRY FEE: The fee is $15 for the first artwork; $10 for each additional work 2, 3, 4; $5 for each additional work up to 10 works total. Entry fees are non-refundable.

SUBMIT YOUR WORK

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: Entry form must be filled out completely. Judging for 2-D and 3-D works will be done entirely from JPEGs. For video works, upload a still image and provide a link to the video. No other formats will be accepted. Your entry fee payment will serve as your acceptance of the terms and conditions stated in the prospectus. Maximum file size for any individual image is 2 MB. All artworks must be 12 inches or less in all directions (including frame), all small performances must be 60 seconds or less.
Height must be given before width regardless of whether the work is vertical or horizontal.

IMAGE LABELING: JPEG images MUST BE labeled as follows:
LAST Name_FIRST Name_The number that corresponds with that work's placement on the Entry Form (1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc.)

Files mislabeled or lacking the artist's name will not be viewed by the juror.

If applying for the small performances category, please provide a link to the video in the appropriate field on the application. Make sure the link is not password protected.

DELIVERY OF WORK:

Hand-delivered work will be accepted at the gallery ONLY on November 5th and 6th.

Shipped work must arrive at the gallery from November 3rd to 6th, in a reusable container. A computer-generated return label for return of work MUST be enclosed. NO EXCEPTIONS. Pre- paid shipping arrangements must be made through UPS or FedEx websites or with other shippers who will pick up work at the gallery. NO U.S. POSTAL SERVICE OR C.O.D. RETURNS. DO NOT SEND CASH, CHECK, STAMPS, OR CREDIT CARD INFORMATION FOR RETURN OF WORK.

Works not at the gallery by November 6th will not be installed.

RETURN OF WORK: Hand-delivered work must be picked up on December 17th and 18th. Shipped works will be returned the week of December 19. The gallery accepts no responsibility for work not retrieved on pick-up dates and will charge the artist $5.00 a day thereafter for storage. After 30 days the gallery may dispose of the work.

NOV 5 - 6 - In-person drop-off from 12-6 pm
NOV 17 - Show opens at 440 Gallery
DEC 16: Show closes at 440 Gallery
DEC 17 - 18: Pick up of unsold artwork 12 - 6 pm; return of shipped work
