The Arts Foundation of Cape Cod will host a series of meetings with members of the arts and cultural community to explore how to improve marketing of the arts for Cape Cod. The discussion will include determining the feasibility of a centralized ticketing outlet on Cape Cod that could service many of the area's theaters and museums. The AFCC received an Adams Planning Grant through the Massachusetts Cultural Council earlier this Fall to explore the outlet's viability.

2013 ArtWorks School to Career Program Applications Available
Heritage Museums & Gardens, in partnership with the Cape and Islands Workforce Investment Board, is seeking junior and senior high school students interested in the arts to apply for the 2013 ArtWorks School to Career program. Application deadline is January 7.
The ArtWorks program connects high school juniors and seniors with an interest in fine arts, craft, writing, graphic design, landscape design, architecture, videography, dance, theater, music, culinary arts, arts administration, exhibit design, etc . with working creative professionals for eight week (40 hours) arts internships across the Cape and Islands. This real life work experience will enrich a students' career knowledge and provide an excellent complement to academic studies.

The Town of Barnstable is accepting applications for artists and artisans interested in participating in the 2013 Harbor Your Arts shanty program. Applications are due by January 31 (deadline extended) and can be downloaded at www.HyArtsDistrict.com
The shanties are open weekends mid-May to mid-June and then on a daily basis through the end of September Artists have the opportunity to rent a shanty for a week, a month or for the entire season and new in 2013, for two consecutive weeks. Visitors to the shanties discover a variety of art including handmade jewelry, paintings, photography, visual art, wood carving, fine Cape Cod inspired crafts, tapestry, ceramics, rope work, glass work and much more. During the season visitors can participate in weekly nature craft programs at no charge and in addition a variety of entertainment is offered that includes musicians, magicians, jugglers and other performers.

Calliope: An Epiphany Party
Calliope, in collaboration with the West Falmouth Library, will hold an Epiphany Party on January 6, 3 - 5 pm. A fundraiser for the Massachusetts Poetry Festival and the West Falmouth Library's educational and outreach programs.
There will be a cypher reading of poems read in some way that responds to the preceding poem (by tone, topic, word choice, sound). Poetry echoes images and meaning in a variety of poems. Come with between 12 - 16 poems, organized by tone, or word choice, or season. This is a free-flowing round reading, not all poems will be read, but be ready to participate.
The next regular poetry reading, featuring Justen Ahren, Aimee Sands and Afaa Michael Weaver, will be held on January 13, 3 - 5 pm.

Chatham First Night is on December 31, noon - midnight with family events through the afternoon and events for adults through the evening.

The Woods Hole Theater Company will hold auditions for two one-act plays, North of Providence and Next, at the Woods Hole Community Hall on January 6 & 7, 5 - 7 pm.
North of Providence, a play about a domestic crisis by Edward Allen Baker, has a role for one male in his 20's and one female, 20 to 30 years old. Next, by Terrence McNally, a comedy about an out-of-shape, middle-aged man who mistakenly gets a draft notice, has a role for one male in his 40's and a female 40-50 years old. Director is Tom Lyons. and production dates are March 14 - 16, 21 - 23, 28 - 30.

Harwich Junior Theatre will hold auditions for Freckleface Strawberry on January 12 & 13, 1 - 3 pm.
A brand new family musical based on the New York Times best selling book by actress Julianne Moore. Roles are available for girls and women ages 9-40 and boys and men ages 9-mid 30's. Performances will take place from April 5 - 28. Come with 16 bars of a favorite song and bring sheet music. Be prepared to sing, dance and read.

The Cape Cod Art Association will be starting its next session of art classes the week of January 7.
Classes such as: Abstract Painting with Mellissa Morris, Mondays noon - 3 pm, learn how to express one's own point of view through abstraction; One-on-One Oil Painting with Sean Cassidy, Tuesdays 9:30 am - noon, learn how to "see" the world in a new way, Intro to Digital Photography with John Tunney, Wednesdays 6 - 8 pm, for anyone who wants to learn to use their digital camera, and Beginner Watercolor Painting with Abby Lammers, Thursdays 1 - 3:30 pm, learn the basics of watercolor taught in a representational style.
An oil painting workshop with Bill Maloney will be held from January 3 - 5, 9 am - 4 pm. Each day begins with an oil painting demonstration by the artist, stressing composition, values, and color. Students will be introduced to the use of complementary colors as an underpainting to produce a glowing vibration of light in the finished painting.

.Town of Barnstable Seeking Bike Rack Designs
The Town of Barnstable is looking for creative designs for bike racks to placed near Hyannis Harbor at Bismore Park. Submissions are open to all visual artists, designers, and engineers 18 years of age or older. Only original work created within the last three years may be submitted. Designs are due by January 14.
The rack should accommodate approximately 5 to 10 bicycles and be able to support an bicycle by its frame in the upright position, have two points per bicycle to secure the bike to the rack, allow each bicycle to be removed without having to move another bicycle, endure repeated user interaction and engagement, and accommodate a variety of bicycle sizes and shapes.

. Provincetown Dune Shack Residencies Applications Available
Residency applications for 2013 for artists, writers and the general public are being accepted for the Fowler and C-Scape Dune Shacks in the Cape Cod National Seashore. One week stays are available. Deadline for application submission is January 15.
The Fowler Cottage is located within the "Dune Shacks of the Peaked Hill Bars Historic District", east of Race point Coast Guard Station. It is bounded by the Atlantic ocean and a sand access road on the north, by open dunes to the east and west, and by another sand access road to the south. C-Scape is one of 19 shacks located within the Peaked Hill Bars National Register Historic District. The primitive nature of the structure - no electricity, indoor plumbing, or telephone - and its physical isolation allow for uninterrupted solitude and refuge.

.7th Annual National and Regional Poetry Competition
The Cultural Center of Cape Cod announces its Seventh Annual National & Regional Poetry Competitions with a postmark deadline of January 31. Submit up to three poems of any style or subject, totaling no more than five pages, typewritten on plain, white paper.
A National Prize of $1000 will be awarded for a single, unpublished poem that has not won first prize in any national competition, by a resident of the United States. A Regional Prize of $250 will be awarded for a single, unpublished poem (that has not won first prize in any national competition) by a resident of Cape Cod, Nantucket, or Martha's Vineyard. All Cape and Islands poets are also eligible for the National Award. Poets must be 18 or older to enter.

The Cape Cod Maritime Museum is looking for artwork in all mediums for an exhibit The Art of the Catboat opening March 12, with a sneak peek February 10 & 18 - 22.
The Museum is seeking catboat sculptures, models, paintings, drawings, pottery and jewelry which will be on display in the rotating exhibit. Multiple pieces will be considered.
