July 28, 2017From: Alexandria King Street Art Festival
Always dedicated to its incredible arts and culture, Alexandria will welcome back the annual King Street Art Festival this fall, which transforms the city's historic main street into a world-class outdoor art gallery. Festival booths line King Street between Washington and Union streets, featuring over six blocks of artwork by more than 250 artists from the U.S. and abroad.
At this community festival, art enthusiasts discover spectacular paintings, life-size sculptures, jewelry, photography, ceramics and more, offering extraordinary art for every taste. More than $15 million in art will be on display, providing visitors with the opportunity to purchase one-of-a-kind wares and meet the artists behind the work, hearing firsthand what inspires them.
Plus, enjoy a variety of local activities and performances throughout the weekend, including live music, hands-on activities and art happenings. The Art League's popular Ice Cream Bowl Fundraiser returns, featuring 1,400 handmade ceramic bowls and local artisanal ice cream, all for only $15 per bowl.
There is even more art to be found across Union Street at the Torpedo Factory Art Center. Visitors can come inside to explore 82 working studios and seven galleries filled with handmade work by more than 165 local artists. On both days, festival-goers can meet some of the Torpedo Factory artists at Market Square and watch them at their craft.
With this popular festival spanning two days, visitors take advantage of luxurious accommodations just steps from King Street and transform their festival experience into a creativity-filled weekend.
