Alexandria Shops Back-to-School For Needy Children Worldwide

Alexandria residents are using back-to-school sales as an opportunity to offer access to education to more than 10 million children worldwide. For many poverty-stricken children, often a lack of basic supplies is what stands between them and attending school. By taking advantage of back-to-school sales, Aleaxandria families are stocking up on school supplies to pack in shoebox gifts also filled with hygiene items and toys for children in need through Operation Christmas Child.

A project of international Christian relief and evangelism organization Samaritan's Purse, Operation Christmas Child uses the gift-filled shoeboxes to demonstrate God's love in a tangible way to millions of needy children around the world. Since 1993, Operation Christmas Child has delivered shoebox gifts to more than 113 million children in more than 150 countries. In 2014, Operation Christmas Child hopes to collect enough shoebox gifts to reach another 10 million children.
