The spirit of legendary aviatrix Amelia Earhart is alive and well in Atchison! Each summer the community pulls out all the stops in honor of its favorite daughter, complete with a downtown music, food and crafts fair, star-filled outdoor concert, children’s activities, awards and honors, Earhart research and literature, music on the beautiful Riverfront, aerobatic performances and the grandest of all finalés — the “Concert in the Sky” fireworks show.

Amelia Storytime

Join Miss Cindy in sharing books and stories about Amelia at the Atchison Library during storytime.

Saturday, July 22nd, 2023

2K/8K Fun Run-Walk

7:30 am | YMCA 321 Commercial St.

Chip timed race begins and ends at the Atchison Family YMCA. Showers are available post-race.

Amelia Earhart Airport

8 am - 12 pm | 16701 286th Road

Morning activities include a pancake breakfast beginning at 8 am Scavenger hunt begins at 9 am. From 9 to 11 am, visit with
wingwalkers and pilots, and view planes that will perform the airshow over the river on Saturday evening.

“Follow Your Compass” Speakers’ Symposium

Church Tours: Trinity Episcopal

Tour the historic church where Amelia was baptized. On Sunday, July 23rd, a church service at 10 am will feature historic liturgies.

International Forest of Friendship

Celebrate aviation and space at the International Forest of Friendship at Warnock Lake. See 100 World Flags!

Afternoon Tea with the Authors

3 pm | Art & Cultural Center 111

Enjoy a presentation from authors, including Carolyn Frasier, author of Moon Tree: The Story of One Extraordinary Tree, and Kristin Gray, author of The Amelia Six. Meet authors, purchase books, and have them signed! Fun fact: the International Forest of Friendship features a Moon Tree!

Prepare yourselves for a breathtaking Double Barrel dual wingwalking act! Third Strike Wingwalking is coming to amaze you with their performance! Carol Pilon is the only female, wingwalker to outright own and operate a double wingwalking female team in North America. She performed the wingwalking stunts in the Fox feature presentation of the movie “Amelia”

“Concert in the Sky” Fireworks Show

Approx. 9:30 pm | Over the Missouri River

Enjoy one of the Midwest’s most dazzling fireworks shows, orchestrated to music by Stellar Fireworks, Inc. Bring your own seating. Free shuttle service will run from 5-11 pm to the riverfront from Atchison Elementary School. Please park in the school lot, located at 825 North 17th Street; no coolers allowed on shuttles.Those with limited mobility can be dropped off at 2nd and Main.
