Mary Lou's Story – Early Warning Signs of COPD

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), which includes emphysema and chronic bronchitis, is a leading cause of disability and death in the United States. More than 12.5 million people have been diagnosed with COPD, but millions more may have the disease without even knowing it. Early diagnosis is key to treatment starting sooner. The Lung Association launched a campaign to educate Americans about the early warning signs of COPD. This educational campaign includes a video and online assessment. Learn more at Lung.org/COPD.

Important Changes to Medicaid and CHIP Coverage

On April 1, requirements to help patients keep their healthcare coverage ended. Consequently, more than 95 million currently enrolled in Medicaid or the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) will need to go through a renewal process over the next year. To help, we have resources at Lung.org/healthcare, including fact sheets in English and Spanish and a video featuring a lung cancer survivor.

Recognizing the Impact of Chronic Cough

In the United States, it is estimated that 5% of adults live with chronic cough, a cough lasting longer than eight weeks. Understanding COPD with COPD Basics Course

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a leading cause of disability and death in the United States. While 12.5 million people have been diagnosed with COPD, millions more may have the disease without even knowing it. To improve care for people living with COPD, the American Lung Association launched COPD Basics, a free online course for people with COPD, their families and healthcare professionals.
