Current Executive Vice President to Begin Interim President Role July 1
Paxton, MA - Anna Maria College Board of Trustees April 17, 2014 announced that Executive Vice President Mary Lou Retelle will serve as the college's interim president effective. This appointment follows last month's announcement of President Jack P. Calareso's resignation after seven years at AMC.
"Ms. Retelle is a seasoned administrative executive with in-depth knowledge of Anna Maria campus dynamics and a keen understanding of its many opportunities and challenges. The board's unanimous decision on her appointment underscores our confidence in her ability to lead the institution through this critical transition," said Sr. Yvette E. Bellerose, SSA, chair of the board of trustees for AMC. Trustees will lead the national search effort for Calareso's successor. Sr. Bellerose estimates the search and hire of its 11th president to take about a year's time.
Retelle has served as AMC's Executive Vice President since 2011. Currently, she oversees the college functions related to admission and financial aid, student life and athletic programs. Including her three years at AMC, Retelle brings to this appointment nearly 25 years of experience as an executive administrator at academic institutions. Most recently, she served as an enrollment consultant for Suffolk University following a total of 15 years at Merrimack College in North Andover. Positions held at Merrimack include Vice President for Enrollment and Student Services, Vice President for Enrollment Management, and Dean of Admission and Financial Aid. She also served as Director of Admission and Enrollment Management at State University of New York, Potsdam from 1991 to 1994. Retelle obtained her Bachelor of Arts in Biology from Merrimack College and her Master of Education in Student Personnel Services from Northeastern University in Boston.
"President Calareso has provided our students, faculty, board and larger community with exemplary leadership during his seven-year tenure at Anna Maria College. I look forward to building on that success to further enhance the campus community and its offerings to meet our central mission of educating the next generation of professionals," said Retelle.
