Arts Foundation of Cape Cod to Award Over $28,000 in Grants

Centerville, MA -- The Arts Foundation of Cape Cod will be awarding over $28,000 in grants to 33 local organizations at an Awards Reception at the Cape Cod Community Media Center beginning at 5:30pm.       
 
The Arts Foundation has spent the last year in a strategic planning process called "AFCC 2020" that has led the Board and Staff to study new giving models, talk to stakeholders and past recipients and gain a greater understanding how the Foundation's dollars can create more impact in the community.
 
According to Kevin M. Howard, the AFCC's President & CEO, "This process has changed our view of how best to leverage our direct-giving dollars to their greatest effect for our core constituency and make the biggest impact on a growing creative economy."
 
Included in the Spring Grants process were awards to 15 major arts and cultural organizations that collectively serve over 620,000 visitors/audiences, employ over 400 people and have an aggregate budget of $13,477,576. Those Strategic Alliance Grant recipient organizations will receive grants that are for two years and can be used for General Operating Funds. The organizations chosen for this program include: Academy of Performing Arts in Orleans, Children's Discovery Museum of Cape Cod in Mashpee, Cape Cod Museum of Art in Dennis, Cape Cod Museum of Natural History in Brewster, Cape Cod Pilgrim Memorial Association in Provincetown, Cape Cod Symphony & Conservatory of Music & Arts, Cotuit Center for the Arts, Cultural Center of Cape Cod in South Yarmouth, Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown, Harwich Junior Theatre, Heritage Museums and Gardens in Sandwich, Highfield Hall & Gardens in Falmouth, John F. Kennedy Museum in Hyannis, Provincetown Arts Association & Museum and Wellfleet Harbor Actors Theater.

In addition to the Strategic Alliance Grants, the Arts Foundation also invited 54 other organizations to apply for funding this cycle for smaller grants to be applied to their General Operating Funds.  The Arts Foundation was able to grant awards to 18 of the 20 organizations who applied including ArtsFalmouth, Buzzards Play Productions, Cape Cod Chamber Music Festival, Cape Cod Repertory Theatre, Inc, Cape Cod Theatre Project
Cape Cod Writers Center, Chatham Chorale, Chatham Historical Society, Chatham Orpheum Theater, Eventide Arts, Falmouth Museums on the Green, Falmouth Theater Guild, Harbor Stage Company, Meetinghouse Chamber Music Festival, Osterville Historical Museum, Trayer Museum Group/Coast Guard Heritage Museum, Wellfleet Preservation Hall and WOMR.

David Willard, a member of the AFCC Board of Directors, chaired the Grants Review Committee. He was joined by fellow Board member Bart Weisman and the following distinguished community members: Dan Cutrona (photographer), Terry Duenas (Cape Cod Community Media Center) , Mary Pat Flynn (Community Leader), Lynn Mason-Small (Rogers & Gray Insurance),  Rick Morris (RPM Carpets & Floorcoverings), Steven Peters (Cooperative Bank of Cape Cod), Richard Rand, Susan Sigel (Artist), and Terri Whelan (Aflac).

The Arts Foundation of Cape Cod grants are awarded to support organizations that help create a strong, stable, and diverse cultural community on Cape Cod; and that contribute to the quality of life and economic vitality of the region. The Arts Foundation of Cape Cod grants are awarded twice a year. The next AFCC grants cycle will be in Fall 2014 for project based grants funding endeavors that are collaborative in nature, serve at risk youth and contribute to the creative economy.  Application guidelines are avaialbe at www.artsfoundation.org/grants-program.
