On Saturday, July 8, head over to the Gowanus Dredgers Boathouse (165 2nd Street, Gowanus)  for “Life is short, but snakes are long,” a dual exhibit by Brett Gui Xin and Shawna Tang.

Brett is a Brooklyn-based multidisciplinary artist whose current practice focuses on the potential of post consumer plastics as fiber for textiles. Recurring themes in her work center on her Chinese heritage, the concept forever, and the coiling form of the snake.

Shawna’s work celebrates her Chinese heritage by recreating and referencing traditional motifs in her fuzzy and colorful tufted works. The playful tufted snakes Shawna created for this exhibit explore various life pursuits such as love, beauty, and wealth.

The opening reception is Saturday from 1-5pm and the exhibit is on view Saturdays, July 8, 15, 22 and 29 (1pm-5pm). The artists will host a different craft activity for families each week.
