Hello art lovers!
We hope that everyone had a restful holiday weekend. There is lots to see now that the summer season has kicked off. Keep scrolling for more info.

Celebrate Pride Month! Opening This Thursday, June 1st at The Old Stone House & Washington Park

To celebrate Pride Month, Arts Gowanus is partnering with Brooklyn Pride and The Old Stone House & Washington Park to present an outdoor art exhibition called “Together We Will…

The exhibit features artwork (selected from an open call during the month of April) by emerging and established Brooklyn-based LGBTQIA+ artists working in various styles and media. The works depict and celebrate the LGBTQIA+ community.

All works are printed on 36” x 36” vinyl banners and include a brief description of the piece. The banners will be displayed on the fence surrounding The Old Stone House & Washington Park/J.J. Byrne Playground in Park Slope from June 1 – August 31, 2023.

Thanks to our awesome panel of jurors, Mickey Heller, Kyle Naff, Oluwakemi Oritsejafor, Ariel Sanders, and Eric Sosa, for selecting the final artworks.

"Together We Will..." is also being presented online, with the original version of each artwork available for purchase at artsgowanus.org.

Opening Friday, June 2 at Sweet Lorraine Gallery, 183 Lorraine Street, Red Hook

Also in honor of Pride month, "Queer Bodies: Explorations in Abstraction and Portraiture" opens at Sweet Lorraine Gallery in Red Hook on Friday, 6-9pm, with an afterparty on the rooftop (BYOB)!

Curated by Traci Johnson and Joi Berry, the show will run through June 28th.

Opening Saturday, June 3 at Established Gallery, 75B 6th Avenue

Established Gallery presents "A Soil Thick With Promise" by Natalia Nakazawa, curated by Katherine Gressel. The solo exhibit will run from Saturday, June 3rd – Sunday, June 25th with an opening reception on Saturday, June 3rd from 1–3pm and an artist talk on Thursday, June 8th from 6:30–8pm.

Natalia Nakazawa’s work engages with themes of transnationality, diasporic contexts, migration patterns, storytelling, archiving, and institutional critique at a time when such issues are at the forefront of current political debates. "A Soil Thick with Promise," the artist’s first solo exhibition, features new painting, textile and ceramic work centered around the form of the vessel. Also incorporating waves, butterflies and other symbols of transition as well as patterns from diverse cultural influences, these works ask questions like, “What do we carry with us? What can we preserve? What do we promise ourselves? What moves us?”
