Autism Outreach Program

WICHITA, KS - Today the Wichita Police Department (WPD), Heartspring, Sedgwick County Sheriff, and Sedgwick County Emergency Communications are pleased to announce the availability of applications for the Autism Outreach Program on the WPD website. As part of our commitment to community engagement and inclusivity, this program is specifically designed for people with autism and their families.

Participation in this program allows for information identifying your loved one as a person with autism to be entered in our system and thru stickers that can be placed on your vehicle, door, window, etc. should there ever be a situation in which our officers need to interact, thereby allowing us to engage more meaningfully.

Applications can be accessed on the WPD website: https://www.wichita.gov/536/Police. If you or someone in your family is a person with autism and wishes to participate in this program, we encourage you to fill out the form available on the website.

The Autism Outreach Program represents exciting collaboration within our community, and we extend our sincere appreciation to all partners involved for their dedication in bringing this initiative to fruition.

Chief Joe Sullivan expressed his pride in the innovative work by all of the partners, stating, "I am extremely proud of the creative team who had the drive to get this program put together. WPD will continue to work diligently on ways that we can serve all of our community members."

This partnership underscores an ongoing commitment to create a more inclusive and supportive community for all individuals. By fostering understanding and providing tailored resources, we aim to enhance the well-being and safety of all community members.
