We want to hear from you!

Biggs – Better – Best!

The Biggs Museum of American Art is expanding our space on Dover's Historic Green and we’re asking our friends in the community to help us reimagine the space so that it better serves your needs. This is your opportunity to help shape the future of the Biggs! We want you to see yourself and your community in the art, the building, and your visitor experience.

The Biggs will be collecting information in three ways, through a short online survey, Community Listening Sessions, and Focus Groups.

Take a Survey

The brief six question survey is the first step to sharing how you interact with the current museum and its’ activities. The short survey asks questions about why you do (or don’t) visit museums and how the Biggs can be made more inviting; from changing the physical space to offering more of what you’d like to see.

Attend a Community Listening Session or Focus Group

The community listening sessions begin at the Dover Public Library, after a short introduction a fully accessible bus will make the 5-minute drive to the Biggs where you’ll have an opportunity to explore the museum. Next, you’ll be driven back to the Library to engage in fun, interactive activities that give you the opportunity to help us to reimagine and improve the physical Museum space, as well as your visitor experience.

The Biggs is also offering three Focus Group Workshops for our neighbors in the African American, Indigenous Peoples, and Latinx communities. In the Focus Group you’ll have the opportunity to discuss issues and wants that are specific to your community and participate in exciting and engaging activities and conversations.

Workshops and Focus Groups last for 2 to 3 hours and include:

- Exploration of the Biggs
- Complimentary snacks and beverages
- Free parking at the Library and no charge transportation to and from the Biggs
- Meeting rooms that are fully accessible, safe and comfortable, and large enough for social distancing
- Complimentary 1-year Dual Membership for you and whoever you chose!

SmithGroup to Lead Expansion

Learn more about the Firm

The Biggs Museum of American Art is poised to kick off expansion efforts, and has announced that SmithGroup, one of the nation’s leading integrated design firms, has been selected to spearhead the efforts.

In September 2021, the Biggs acquired two historic buildings adjacent to the current museum, 15 – 21 The Green. Long known for its historic art collection, an active acquisition program, and a robust schedule of special exhibitions, the natural inclination for newfound museum space would be to simply show more artwork. However, the Museum had its eyes set on long term goals beyond that. “This type of expansion is a once in a lifetime opportunity for us. We don’t want to focus solely on being bigger, but on serving community needs and interests to deliver the best possible experience,” says Biggs Museum Director, Michael Dudich.
