Bilirakis Speaks With Local Purple Heart Veterans On National Purple Heart Day

Zephyrhills, FL:  Earlier today, U.S. Congressman Gus Bilirakis spoke to the Greater Tampa Chapter of the Military Order of the Purple Heart (MOPH).  Every member of this organization has been awarded the Purple Heart for combat-related injuries.  On this national Purple Heart Day, Bilirakis recognized the service and sacrifice of these heroes and provided an update on the work he is doing locally to benefit our heroes, including: securing funding for a new bed tower at James A. Haley Veterans Hospital and for new outpatient clinics in New Port Richey, Zephyrhills, and Countryside. Bilirakis also highlighted recent legislative victories, such as final passage of the PACT Act, which includes several Bilirakis-authored provisions.  In addition to these updates, Bilirakis spoke with the purple heart recipients about the state of our nation and the steps he believes must be taken to strengthen national security and improve military readiness.

“It is a privilege to have the opportunity to recognize the contributions of nation’s true heroes and to learn from their experiences,” said Bilirakis.  “My continued goal is to honor their sacrifice by serving as their voice in Washington. There is still much more work to be done when it comes to strengthening our national security and ensuring that all Veterans have access to the care and benefits they deserve.  However, I will never stop fighting to advance these important causes.”
