WASHINGTON, DC—Today, Congressman Andre Carson (IN-07) will be joined by Yasmine Anderson of the Indianapolis-based group Black Women in Charge, Inc. as his guest to President Biden’s State of the Union.

Black Women in Charge is a non-profit organization democratizing autonomy over one's wellness and education from a human rights perspective, led entirely by young Black women. With membership consisting of women between the ages of 18-27 from across the world, Black Women in Charge’s focus areas include public health research and legislative reform in partnership with grassroots, state, and federal organizations.

“Yasmine and Black Women in Charge represent the future of activism in my hometown and across the country,” said Congressman Carson. “From speaking out against police misconduct, racial disparities in public health, and fighting for equal access to safe abortions, this group is making their mark on our community and beyond. As President Biden prepares to address the nation and call for Congress to build on our progress over the last two years, I am proud show my support for the next generation of leaders.”

The State of the Union Address will highlight the achievements that House Democrats and President Biden have delivered over the past two years. From the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to the Inflation Reduction Act, Democrat-led efforts will continue to bring new jobs, improved roads and bridges, and a cleaner, more sustainable future to communities across the country.

“I am honored to join Representative Carson at the State of the Union Address to hear from President Biden about the progress we have made and the work we still have to do,” said Yasmine Anderson, CEO at Black Women in Charge. “My organization seeks to advocate for justice at all levels, and I am thrilled to have the chance to be at the center of American politics for this important occasion.”
