Booker Statement on Attack on Temple Ner Tamid

Government and Politics

January 29, 2023

Newark, NJ – Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ) issued the following statement:

“I’m deeply disturbed by the attack on Temple Ner Tamid and our Jewish community early Sunday morning. Thankfully, no one is reported to be injured, and I’m grateful for law enforcement for securing the synagogue and its continuing investigation.

“Hate has no place in our state. We cannot ignore the rise in antisemitism or tolerate threats to our religious communities. We must condemn this hate and respond with resolve and determination, taking steps to keep our religious communities safe and stamp out this darkness. I will continue to work with our congressional delegation, as well as state and local leaders, to bring home resources—such as through the Nonprofit Security Grant Program—to safeguard synagogues and houses of worship across New Jersey.”
