WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) announced that Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) awarded $2,165,400 to the State of Ohio for stormwater management in Boardman Township.

“As climate change worsens and historic storm events become more frequent, we need to ensure that we provide communities resources to respond accordingly”, said Brown. “This stormwater system investment will help Boardman Township better serve the community with improved flood control.”

“The Township is very grateful for all the state and federal support for the Forest Lawn Stormwater Park,” said Jason Loree, Boardman Township Administrator. “This project will be transformative for the area and will help alleviate flooding for our community as we continue to look for ways to improve our storm water infrastructure.”

The investment will extend the storm sewer pipe and create an underground basin and a stormwater park. The stormwater park will expand available stormwater storage from an existing 93,500 cubic feet to 556,500 cubic feet and mitigate flooding for downstream residents. Additionally, the project includes green infrastructure features, such as a community rain garden, that will increase the water quality for the watershed.
