Arts and Entertainment

July 22, 2022

From: The Maritime Aquarium

We've got you covered during Shark Week next week! Stop by the Aquarium to experience our special exhibit – "Shark Haven" – featuring four 4- to 5-foot sandbar sharks, one of the shark species native to Long Island Sound. Plus, our "Ocean Beyond the Sound" exhibit is home to sand tiger and lemon sharks, all of which are 7- to 9-feet long!

A trip to the Aquarium is not complete without dropping by our "Shark and Ray Touch Pool" where you can actually touch shark species!

You Can Help Protect the Hudson Canyon!

As the largest submarine canyon along the U.S. Atlantic Coast, the Hudson Canyon is the Northeast's Grand Canyon. It has repeatedly been recognized as a place of national significance and an ecological hotspot that provides habitat for a range of species including sharks, whales, turtles, seabirds, fishes and deep-sea corals.

The process to designate this important habitat as a National Marine Sanctuary is currently underway! Make your voice heard by adding your name to a letter of support below.

Help Us Celebrate National Zoo Keeper Week!

For our animal husbandry team, there are no work-from-home options. Their daily responsibilities include feeding our animals, cleaning their habitats, making sure all pumps and filtration systems function properly,  monitoring animal health, and educating visitors. Their passion for our animals is second to none and we have the utmost respect and admiration for their extraordinary commitment.

In addition to funding our conservation and education programming, your gift helps us continue to support the efforts of our animal husbandry team while they care for our nearly 7,000 resident animals. Help us celebrate them today and every day!
