Celebrating Democratic Candidates on the Ballot

Government and Politics

April 4, 2024

The South Dakota Democratic Party is excited to announce it helped get more than 100 candidates on the ballot for the 2024 election! This is all thanks to dozens of volunteers across the state collecting thousands of signatures to get qualified, determined candidates on the ballot.

This includes:

- 45 County Candidates (County Commission/States Attorney/Treasurer/Auditor)

- 53 Legislative Candidates

- Numerous City Council and School Board candidates across the state

- A Congressional Candidate who is running against US Rep. Dusty Johnson for the first time since 2018

SD Democratic Party Chair Shane Merrill released the following statement as the party celebrates all of the candidates who made it on the ballot.

“This year we have had to hit the ground running in our effort to recruit candidates. It was an all-out grassroots, team effort. I couldn’t be prouder of our countless volunteers from every corner of South Dakota. Voters are tired of the one-party rule in Pierre. We look forward to an exciting election season as we plan to make gains both locally and at the State Capitol.”
