We are saddened to share with you that our dear friend and member Kathy Cambria recently passed away. Staff and her many friends here at the Centers for the Arts will all remember Kathy fondly for her bright smile, infectious laugh and her ‘full out’ embrace of life. One only needed to see one of her beautiful watercolor paintings to see and appreciate Kathy, a beautiful and joyous person.
Those of you who knew Kathy instantly experienced her giving nature and willingness to help others. Some of you may know of her passion for education, how dedicated she was, helping young people in her role as educator and tutor throughout her career and into retirement. Kathy grew up in Wisconsin, attended Marquette University and originally taught in the Milwaukee School District. She later moved to Ann Arbor, Michigan earned her graduate degree and became the Learning Disabilities Consultant for Washtenaw School District. And, even through retirement she continued her passion of helping others, tutoring children and adults with reading disabilities.
Kathy married the love of her life, Frank, in 1986. Later, she and Frank became seasonal residents, sharing their time between Michigan and Naples. Many of us met Kathy 10 years ago when she and Frank became members at the Centers. Kathy made so many friendships—artists in her painting classes and workshops, staff members, and exhibiting artists. She leaves an enriched legacy—all of us who saw her as a caring and generous friend—a role model for kindness, sharing and understanding.
A number of Kathy’s friends contacted us and have donated to award a scholarship in Kathy’s honor this coming year to a child who needs financial help to study the arts. If you’d like to join us, please call our office 239-495-8989.
