Cheshire Memorial Day Parade 2022

Arts and Entertainment

May 20, 2022

The Cheshire Memorial Day Parade, will be the 54th annual traditional parade, following the postponement in 2020 and the modified Motorcade parade last year. The Parade Committee has announced the Honorary Grand Marshals for 2022 with a nod to the The Vietnam Traveling Memorial coming to Cheshire June 2-6. With respect and honor to those veterans who are on the Wall, the two Cheshire residents who were killed in action, John Gravil, CHS class of 65, U.S. Marine Corps, and Gary Richards, CHS Class of 61, U.S. Army will be honored in this year’s parade.

After a two-year hiatus due to pandemic concerns, the Parade Committee is organizing the traditional parade residents are used to. Last year, despite torrid rainfall, the town honored veterans who sacrificed all in service to our country with a Veteran- Only Motorcade which travelled through town. The event drew lots of veterans in the cars and patriotic crowds along the route, who cheered as the veterans passed by honoring their fallen brothers and sisters who served in the military. The Parade Committee felt it was so successful, despite weather conditions and the pandemic situation, they are again inviting all veterans who want to participate in Division 1 in the parade. All these cars in the parade will have signage on both side doors allowing parade-goers the opportunity to thank them for their service as they pass them along the Route 10.

Parade Marshal will be John White, Memorial Day Parade Committee Lead and Commander of the VFW Post 10052. He will be riding with the 2022 Parade Chaplain Chaplain Randy Tapp of the American Legion. Division Commanders will be Leslie Marinaro, Danielle and Dylan DeNuzzo, Tom Marinaro and Andrew Martelli. The Parade will be part of many Memorial Day weekend events in Town starting with the Wreath Ceremony at the Cheshire Congregational Green at 11:00 and Flags Across Cheshire where flags are placed on veteran cemeteries at 1:00 p.m., both on Saturday May 28th.

The Cheshire Park & Recreation is seeking final applications for businesses and organizations who would like to participate in the 2022 Parade.
