October City Meetings & Events

We are repairing sidewalks
Over the last three years, the City has removed over 10,000 trip hazards from Alameda's sidewalks.

This year, work is focused on the west end of Alameda and in the Harbor Bay Business Park. We are only half way done and have already removed over 4,000 tripping hazards. Thank you Public Works!

We are seeking your feedback on the draft Active Transportation Plan

Alameda’s draft Active Transportation Plan aims to provide safe, comfortable, and accessible ways for people of all ages and all abilities to walk, use mobility devices, and bicycle throughout Alameda. It includes long-range visions as well as an eight-year infrastructure and programs plan. Please read the draft plan and take an online survey by October 23 to share your feedback -- or email questions and comments to [email protected].

We are hosting a workshop on electrification

To help achieve the City's climate and equity goals, we are drafting a new plan that requires all new construction and substantial alterations be all electric with no natural gas hookups, with certain exceptions. Attend a virtual workshop on October 18 or 20 to learn more and tell us what you think!

We urge drivers to be extra alert and aware this Halloween
Alameda is an incredible place to be for Halloween but we can work together to ensure our streets are not scary! Drivers, slow down and use extra caution. Kids are twice as likely to be hit by a car and killed on Halloween than any other day. Watch for kids everywhere -- and especially at intersections, sidewalks, and driveways. Drive with your lights on. And never drink and drive. 41% of the people killed in crashes on Halloween night involve drunk driving.

We appreciate our staff!
This week the City's HR Department organized a staff appreciation picnic and awards were given to employees for their years of service. Congrats and appreciation to Joe Castaneda who celebrated 50+ years of service to the City as a Crime Scene Specialist!

We are hiring

Current job openings include electrical engineer, utility projects analyst, Public Works supervisor, parks facility attendant, part-time administrative and maintenance jobs, and more.

COVID-19 Update

The updated bivalent COVID-19 booster is now available for everyone 5 and older.

The virus that causes COVID-19 changes over time. Keep your protection against COVID-19 up to date by getting a bivalent COVID-19 vaccine booster dose.

The bivalent COVID-19 vaccines include a component of the original virus strain to provide broad protection against COVID-19 and a component of the omicron variant to provide better protection against COVID-19 caused by the omicron variant. These are called bivalent COVID-19 vaccines because they contain these two components. A bivalent COVID-19 vaccine may also be referred to as “updated” COVID-19 vaccine booster dose.

Updated boosters can be given at least two months after completing your primary vaccine series or last booster. Everyone eligible is encouraged to get the updated booster now to avoid severe illness. Schedule an appointment today!
