City of Alameda Launches Website Showcasing Public Art Collection

Have you seen the giant steel baseball monument in Alameda honoring the legendary Willie Stargell? Have you looked closely at the mosaic work on Norman Moore's Gateway to California in Jean Sweeney Open Space Park? What about Jeffery Laudenslager's Semi Ripples

Over the past several months Community Development Department staff have worked with graphic and web designer Jose Fernandez, photographer Maurice Ramirez, and the Public Art Commission to develop a website to showcase the large-scale art installations that are invigorating public spaces around Alameda.

The new website features an interactive map allowing users to explore public art across the city and includes individual reference pages for each featured artwork.

The website includes works created through the Public Art Program as well as publicly-accessible murals funded through a combination of private dollars and the Facade Grant Program.

The website is not exhaustive, so if you know of Alameda artwork that should be featured, please pass along the information to Walker Toma at [email protected]!
