Draft Equitable Building Decarbonization Plan Going to City Council on Oct 4th

Alameda's draft Equitable Building Decarbonization Plan lays out a phased approach for shifting natural gas use in existing buildings towards clean, energy efficient electric buildings in alignment with the City's climate and equity goals. The plan aligns with other citywide efforts to create affordable, safe, healthy and resilient housing and prepares the City to leverage grants and funds as they become available.

The plan was recommended for adoption by the Planning Board and Public Utilities Board and will be reviewed by the City Council on October 4th (Item 7-D).

FAQ addresses some of the common questions about the Plan and the building decarbonization process. Have other questions you want answered? Just email and ask!

Streamlined solar permitting is coming to Alameda!

Alameda will be launching its new on-line Solar Permitting system next month. The new streamlined solar permitting process will work in conjunction with the department’s new expedited same day permitting process for electrical service upgrades, heat pumps and EV chargers. It will facilitate and support Alameda’s efforts to reduce greenhouse gases and decarbonize the building stock in compliance with the Climate Action and Resiliency Plan. With the new on-line permitting program, the time to get a solar permit in Alameda will be reduced from a month or more to about an hour.

The draft Active Transportation Plan will be released for public review on October 3, and we want to know what you think!

The plan includes pedestrian improvements, a bicycle network for all ages and abilities, and a path forward for Slow Streets. Transportation represents 70% of Alameda’s greenhouse gas emissions, so we need your help making sure this plan will make more people comfortable on foot, mobility device, or bicycle.

The City will hold three weeks of public engagement (October 3-23) on the draft plan, including events, a survey, presentations to boards and commissions, Farmers’ Market tabling, and virtual office hours. Find the latest information at www.ActiveAlameda.org and mark your calendars for the following:

-Oct 5 Virtual Workshop

-Oct 16 In-Person Open House

-Oct 20 Transportation Commission Special Mtg

In addition to the Active Transportation Plan, in October the City will seek feedback on draft concepts for two projects:

-Oct 11 & 13 Clement Extension/Tilden Way

-Oct 25 & 27 Lincoln/Marshall/Pacific Improvements
