Per new state law, SB 1383, businesses must place color-coded and labeled compost and recycling containers next to all indoor garbage containers. Businesses that do not comply with this new state mandate are subject to enforcement and fines.

To date, the City of Albany has provided free waste bins to 31 Albany businesses and multifamily properties to aid compliance with this new state mandate. The City's program provides a set of 3 bins (or more, upon request), plus sticker labels to place on the bins, at no cost.

Waste sorting bins can be used indoors, and at outdoor dining locations.
