Azle Municipal Court received its first Texas Municipal Traffic Safety Initiatives (MTSI) Traffic Safety Award - New Applicant Division from the Texas Municipal Courts Education Center (TMCEC). The Azle Municipal Court was recognized, along with 23 other Municipal Courts in Texas, as a court that demonstrated an excellence in impaired driving prevention and providing citizens with materials regarding DUI/DWI and traffic safety. One of their efforts to help educate the public about the effects of impaired driving was to coordinate bringing Morgan's Story to Azle's 2021 National Night Out event. In 2020, 23-year-old Morgan Michael was killed by a drunk driver in Amarillo, Texas. Morgan's family spoke to Azle residents about the dangers of impaired driving and court staff handed out bracelets with quotes Court Municipal Traffic Safety Award 2022Morgan wrote in her journal a month before her tragic death including, "Be Kind to Others" and "You'll Only be a Memory One Day so Make Sure it's a Good One."

Municipal Traffic Safety Initiatives (MTSI) is a grant funded program through the Texas Department of Transportation.  The purpose of MTSI is to prevent impaired driving through Texas Municipal Courts.  This is achieved by offering impaired driving courses at judicial education seminars and through webinars, distributing free anti-DUI and DWI books and materials, and recognizing as models those municipal courts that demonstrate excellence in impaired driving prevention.  MTSI plays an integral role in preventing impaired driving and making Texas roads safer.
