City Administrator Mike Ekey announced this week that Jason Norbury will serve as the City’s next Economic Development Director. This critical leadership role will lead the City’s evolving efforts to attract and retain quality businesses in Blue Springs.

“How we approach economic development in our community is changed dramatically and I know Jason’s experience makes him the perfect individual to lead our efforts,” Ekey said. “Not only does he bring experience in economic development but also has special expertise in supporting development in downtown districts that I believe will help move our City forward.”

Norbury currently serves as the Executive Director of the Downtown Shareholders of Kansas City, Kansas, Inc., where he has led the revitalization and strategic planning efforts for the Downtown district. Additionally, he has served on the Downtown Lee’s Summit Community Improvement District Board, as former vice president for Downtown Lee’s Summit Main Street, Inc., and as chairperson on the City of Lee’s Summit Planning Commission. He holds his Juris Doctor from the University of Missouri at Kansas City School of Law and a Bachelor of Arts from Rice University.

“Blue Springs is a great city, yet still has plenty of potential for economic growth, from the emerging Downtown outward,” Norbury said.  “I look forward to working with Mayor Ross, City Council, and Staff to turn that potential into reality.”

As Economic Development Director, Norbury will oversee the activities and operations of the Economic Development Division, including programs and projects designed to promote community vitality and encourage efforts to expand the local economy.
