From: City of Campbell

The Campbell Police Department’s Civilian Police Academy is a 10-week program designed to foster increased understanding and communication between Campbell community members and the Campbell Police Department. The program provides an in-depth look at our organizational structure, functions, and operational procedures to enhance transparency, trust, and cooperation.

The curriculum and teaching methods will include a mixture of lectures, demonstrations, videos, tours, and hands-on activities in a safe, controlled environment. The weekly sessions are not intended to train participants to be law enforcement professionals but rather to produce more informed community members. Each session is taught by Campbell officers and civilian staff. Topics vary from session to session and include:

-Laws of Arrest

-Search and Seizure

-Use of Force

-Traffic Stops / Driving Under the Influence Investigations

-Financial Crimes / Identity Theft

-Digital Forensics / Crime Scene Processing

-Specialized Units (e.g., SWAT Team, Crisis Negotiation Team, Canine Unit, Motorcycle/Traffic Unit, Special Enforcement Team, Drone Team, etc.)

-Community Policing

For ten weeks (8/24/22-10/26/22), the program meets one night per week (Wednesdays) from 6:00 pm – 8:30 pm. In addition, there is one Saturday class (9/24/22) from 9:30 am– 1:30 pm, and participants will also go on ride-alongs with officers and sit-alongs with dispatchers. Participants are required to attend all sessions and are encouraged to actively engage in class discussions.

There is no cost to participate in the Campbell Civilian Police Academy.
