Police/Public - Roll Call at Ellis & Jefferson

This week's NEIGHBORHOOD ROLL CALL is scheduled for Thursday, July 28 with "C Platoon" at ????? & ????????? beginning at 7 p.m. What is roll call? CGPD officers working the night shift will literally have their patrol briefing right there in your neighborhood at the time listed above. They will be reviewing information passed down from previous shifts that they need to know. It's a great chance to do a little information sharing with you, and it's a great opportunity for you to express to us any concerns you have in your specific neighborhood - or in the city, in general. Children are always welcome to attend, too.Our neighborhood roll calls typically last 30 minutes, sometimes a little shorter or a few minutes longer depending on calls for service, information being reviewed, and questions and conversation with our citizens. We hope to see you there!

Broadway Lane Closure at Penny

Broadway reopened at Penny last week following a brief closure for stormwater improvements as part of the Penny/Capaha Drainage Project. The temporary asphalt pavement will be replaced with an asphalt overlay during the second street closure. When Broadway is closed again, both directions of traffic will be detoured. Following the posted detour using West End, Independence, and Caruthers will be very important to move safely around the project. Stormwater improvements were made possible by voters approving the Parks, Recreation, and Stormwater tax renewal in 2018. The Penny/Capaha Drainage Project includes adding new pipes and increasing the capacity of existing infrastructure. Thank you for driving safely, following detours, and continuing to support local small businesses in the area

MoDOT to Hold Public Meeting to Discuss Exit 93 Interchange

The Missouri Department of Transportation will hold a public meeting from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 27 to discuss the Exit 93 interchange in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. The meeting will be held at the Cape Girardeau Career & Technology Center, located at 1080 S. Silver Springs Rd., Cape Girardeau, Missouri.
The Exit 93 interchange connects southbound Kingshighway traffic to Interstate 55 or Route 74. The bridge in this location is referred to as a “flyover,” and it is in poor condition. The flyover was constructed in 1961 and currently carries more than 6,000 vehicles a day.

“The flyover needs to be replaced, and we are also exploring alternatives for reconfiguring the interchange,” said MoDOT Project Manager Tim Pickett.

MoDOT has been working with a consultant to review input from the public meeting held in January 2020 and develop alternates. Several potential alternates will be shared during the upcoming public meeting.
Pickett explained MoDOT examined multiple factors when considering potential reconfiguration options, including safety, simplifying connections, the level of service, improving bridge clearance and mitigating flooding issues at Route 74.

The public meeting will be open house style, and visitors can stop-by anytime between 3:30 and 6:30 p.m. to discuss the details of the project with the project team.

For more information, please contact Pickett at (573) 472-9003 or MoDOT's Customer Service Center toll-free at 1-888-ASK MODOT (275-6636).

Take Me Home - New Police Program

Getting lost is scary and can be dangerous, especially for someone living with dementia, autism, or other developmental or cognitive disabilities. Ask yourself: Could your loved one communicate their name and address if they were lost? If the answer is no, consider enrolling them in our "???? ?? ????" program.

The "???? ?? ????" registry gives our department quick access to critical information about a registered person with disabilities or medical condition in case they get lost or wander away. If officers find someone who cannot communicate where he/she lives, they can search the database and return the person to their loved ones. The system works both ways – if a loved one goes missing, we can immediately pull up their photo and information from the registry. This way we know who we are looking for, as well as get the photo out on the streets to search more accurately.

Who is eligible? Any Cape Girardeau citizen (adult or child) that may need special assistance in time of emergency. This kind of assistance may be required if the person is unable to speak or properly identify themselves, or if they become disoriented. It is intended to serve people with autism, Down syndrome, cognitive disabilities or senior citizens who have dementia and other medical conditions.

Our registry includes demographic information, emergency contact information, and a digital photo of your loved one. The database is maintained by the Cape Girardeau Police Department, and the information is kept confidential.

To enroll a loved one in the program, simply complete and submit the online form found on our website: www.cityofcape.org/takemehome

???? ?????? ? ?? ?? ?? ????? ??? ???? ????????

Call 911 immediately and explain your loved one's medical condition or special needs. If they are enrolled in "???? ?? ????", be sure to tell the dispatcher. It is helpful to know their medication needs, the most likely places they'll go, if they can't communicate, respond by a certain name, are

afraid of noises, loud sounds or being touched. This helps tailor our search and rescue response so the person will not run away, hide or become frightened when approached by an officer.

West End Boulevard Construction to Begin

Staff and residents are excited for the West End Boulevard Improvements construction to finally begin! Work is expected to start in the coming weeks. The project will widen the current street, add sidewalks, and improve stormwater drainage between Rose and Bertling streets. The project will take up to a year to complete. Fronabager Concreters will contact residents regarding any temporary limited access to driveways. The project was made possible by voters renewing a half-cent sales tax, the Transportation Trust Fund, in 2015.To view other projects visit cityofcape.org/ttf. Updates will be posted as available at cityofcape.org/WestEnd
