Central Municipal Pool “Bubble” Closed

Access to year-round swimming has been a great addition to the Cape Girardeau community for years but Central Municipal Pool, most commonly known as the “Bubble”, has been temporarily closed the general public. Cape Girardeau Public Schools and City officials say the heating and air system has a mechanical issue that cannot be repaired. Local swim teams can use the pool as long as weather allows. They are also looking to other facilities until Central Pool reopens in 2024. Central Pool fitness swimmers will have access to their scheduled times until Oct. 8.

Voting Precinct Boundaries to Change
After the November Election

New ward boundaries have recently went into effect in the City of Cape Girardeau following the 2020 census. As a result, the Cape Girardeau County Clerk’s Office will be adjusting the voting precinct boundaries to reflect the ward changes. However, no change
to the Voting Precincts or Polling Locations will occur until after the November 8, 2022 General Election to avoid confusion for voters.

For the November 8, 2022 General Election, all voting precincts and polling locations for voters within the City of Cape Girardeau will remain the same unless a change must occur due to unforeseen circumstances. Voters would be notified of any change to their polling location.

If any voter is unsure of their current polling location, they can refer to their most recent Voter Identification Card or call the County at (573) 243-3547. Visit their website.

Share Live Video with 911 in Emergencies

Our Police Department has rolled out a new program to enhance our response to emergency situations. The system is named Prepared Live and it allows our 9-1-1 operators to view pictures and videos from incidents in real time, as well as gather real-time GPS locations.

Now, when a citizen calls 9-1-1, the operator is able to text a web link and if the caller follows the link to allow the sharing of information, their phone will send live video and GPS location to the 9-1-1 center. This allows the 9-1-1 operator to know exactly where the person is located and give the first responders better information while they are on their way to help.

Once the caller ends the connection, the 9-1-1 center no longer has access to the phone.
Your city now joins a list of more than 30 cities around the country that offer this enhanced service to their citizens.
