Heatwave Leads to Flex Alerts
Statewide

The California ISO has extended a statewide Flex Alert for today, September 9 from 4pm to 9pm. The prolonged heat wave we have experienced this week has pushed up energy demand and tightened available power supplies. To increase comfort and help with grid stability, consumers are encouraged to pre-cool homes and use major appliances before 4pm, when conservation becomes most critical. For more information on Flex Alerts, and to find more electricity conservation tips, click here.

To help during a Flex Alert (4pm to 9pm):
Set thermostat to 78 degrees or higher, if health permits
Avoid using major appliances
Turn off all unnecessary lights

The Measure's intent is to fund local secondary schools (including Soquel High) increase modernization, safety, and construct affordable housing for teachers/essential staff.

3) Park Avenue Traffic Calming Report - Council provided feedback on potential traffic calming measures for Park Avenue; Staff will conduct public outreach this fall and construction will hopefully begin in Spring 2023

4) City Council Compensation - Council approved the Finance Advisory Committee's recommendation to increase Council compensation to $660/month, following the November 2022 election. Council compensation will be reviewed by the FAC every two years.

Remembering the Begonia Festival

The Capitola Historical Museum participated in this past weekend's Begonia Festival Tribute, with Begonia Festival memorabilia on display in the Museum and in both the Community Room and Council Chambers for the public to enjoy. Museum Curator Osterberg attended the event in periodcostume, and Museum Board Members along with volunteers staffed the museum for more than 200 visitors throughout the weekend; an all time season high!

Thank you for the Begonia Festival Tribute event organizers for orchestrating such a fun and historically-friendly weekend for our community!
