POLICE INVOLVED SHOOTING-VILLAGE GREEN APARTMENTS

(Cocoa, FL)—Patrol officers responding to a call to standby while a vehicle was towed from a property, ended up in an exchange of gunfire with an armed suspect. Just after 3PM Thursday, officers responded to the 1700 block of Dixon Blvd. The apartment complex security officer called requesting officers stand by while a tow company removed a vehicle. While officers were on scene, a male, armed with a firearm,  exited one of the apartments. According to witnesses the male pointed the firearm at the officers. There was an exchange of gunfire and the suspect was wounded. He was later airlifted to the hospital in critical condition. He was conscious and talking. There were no other injuries. 

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is taking the investigation per protocol during a police involved shooting. The Officer is on paid administrative leave, also protocol, while the investigation remains active. No other information is available for release at this time.
