Residents in Davis are welcome to ‘beat the heat’ by attending programs and classes held during the month of August at the Davis Senior Center, located at 646 A Street, the City’s hub for fun and fitness. For indoor events, masking is strongly encouraged. Classes in August include, but are not limited to:

- Mondays and Wednesdays: Resistance Band Training, 2:00 p.m. Use the versatility of resistance bands to target and build specific muscle groups through the extension and contraction of muscles. $21/session

-Tuesdays and Thursdays: Pilates, 2:30 p.m. Improve flexibility, strength and body awareness through controlled movements and stretches. $50/session

-August 10: Cooking Demo, 3:00 p.m. Learn to cook tamales with the Prodigy Baker! Jonah is a 15-year old baker/chef who won 5th place in the State of California for commercial baking. He will show participants step-by-step how to prepare an authentic tamale. A tamale is a traditional Mesoamerican dish, made of masa or dough, packed with vegetables or meat and steamed in a corn leaf or banana leaf. RSVP by noon on August 8.

-August 12: Ice Cream Social, 12:30 p.m. Celebrate summer with sundaes and root beer floats, compliments of Atria Covell Gardens. Local hula dance troupe, Na Wahine Uluwehi (The Flourishing Ladies), will perform. RSVP by noon on August 10.

-August 15: Coffee with a Cop, 10:30 a.m. Do you have questions for local police or are you unclear what citizen responsibilities are in an accident or altercation? Attend this free informative talk with members of the Davis Police Department! No RSVP required.

Event are free to attend unless otherwise stated. To RSVP for events, email: [email protected], call  530-757-5696 or stop by the Senior Center office Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Classes are open to residents 18 years or older and more than half of the activities and services provided at the Davis Senior Center are free to attend. The Davis Senior Center offers in-person and online options for many classes including fitness, art music, dance and so much more.
