Volunteers needed for "sand push"
The Public Works Department is recruiting volunteers to answer questions and keep beach-goers away from heavy equipment during the annual "sand push."
Volunteers work three-hour shifts during low tides, when equipment scoops sand from the water's edge to build mounds in front of street ends and beach access points. During winter tides and surf, the sand mounds provide protection against coastal flooding.
Volunteer schedules are set based upon the tides and the availability of staff and volunteers.
To volunteer, contact Tom Romaine: [email protected].
