Welcome to Weekly Highlights from City Hall - Each issue of this electronic bulletin will contain brief news and information about City programs, services and projects.

Starting September 6, Residents Are Asked to Eliminate Outdoor Watering for 15 Days

The Walnut Valley Water District is asking customers to eliminate outdoor watering for 15 days while the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California shuts down a critical imported water pipeline for emergency repair. This is a voluntary request for the time frame of September 6 through September 20.

Below are tips on how residents can prepare their landscaping for the no watering period. Landscape conditions will improve once the emergency repairs are complete and regular watering schedules resume.

Set your sprinkler timer to “OFF” the evening of September 5
Water your lawn as normal before September 6 (3 days a week, 15 minutes each station)
Add mulch around your plants and trees to retain moisture, mulch should be three inches from the base
Put a bucket in your shower to collect water as the shower warms up. Use for houseplants, sensitive outdoor plants, and areas of the lawn that may show excessive stress (hot spots).
2 weeks of no watering will not kill your lawn. Though you will see a noticeable yellowing, it will improve once watering schedules resume.

Patching work along Golden Springs Drive, west of Brea Canyon Road.

Area 1 Residential & Collector Streets Rehabilitation Project Update

As of August 31, the area 1 residential slurry seal and concrete portion of the project has been completed and staff is continuing to work with the contractor to finalize a “punch list” of tasks. The last step of the project will be roadway striping that is scheduled for the week of September 12.

In addition to the residential areas, the parking lot in front of the YMCA facility was slurry sealed as part of an arrangement to allow for the use of the parking lot for equipment staging during the project. Parking and access remain available from the side of the YMCA building during the curing process.

The demolition of concrete curbs, gutters, sidewalks and a few ramp modifications along Golden Springs Drive between Brea Canyon Road and Lemon Avenue started on August 29. The contractor is set to begin cold mill grinding of asphalt on September 8, with paving to start on September 12 through September 14.  Final striping is scheduled to begin during the week of September 12, followed by loop detector replacements.
