VETERANS PARK COMMITTEE TO HOST PEARL HARBOR DAY REMEMBRANCE CEREMONY
The 81st anniversary of the bombing of Pearl Harbor will be observed on Wednesday, December 7, 2022. The Douglas-Coffee County Veterans Park Committee will host the second annual Pearl Harbor Day Remembrance Ceremony on Wednesday, December 7, 2022, at 10 AM at the Douglas Municipal Gene Chambers Airport.

National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day honors and remembers the 2,403 service members and civilians who were killed during the attack by the Japanese on the US naval base in Hawaii on December 7, 1941. The surprise attack on Pearl Harbor by the Japanese led the United States to enter World War II. President Franklin D. Roosevelt proclaimed it a "date that will live in infamy" issuing a call to arms throughout the nation.

According to www.PearlHarborEvents.com, “The goal of the commemoration is to ensure that future generations will understand the valor and legacy of those who perished and those who fought throughout the war. The commemoration also highlights the importance of the peace that brought reconciliation, a reconciliation that continues to move forward today in creating a better future for all.”

World War II Veterans are invited to attend and will be recognized at the ceremony. The public is invited to attend the ceremony. School groups are also encouraged to attend.
