Important Green Building Ordinance Update
The City’s Green Building Ordinance (Ordinance 2021-13) has received all the necessary local and state approvals and is now in effect. The Ordinance was adopted by City Council on Oct. 27, 2021, approved by the California Energy Commission on July 13, and filed by the California Building Standards Commission on Aug. 2. All residential and non-residential projects that meet the ordinance criteria and have yet to apply for a building permit must now comply with the new regulations established by the ordinance.

The ordinance aligns with the City’s Climate Action Plan and will help achieve the City’s greenhouse gas reduction goals. Depending on the project type, local Green Building requirements may include:
- Residential energy efficiency measures
- Non-residential energy efficiency measures
- Installation of solar photovoltaic panels on non-residential buildings
- All electric construction (all new buildings)

Project applicants may use the new Green Building Checklist to determine applicability.

The City will host a public training for the Green Building Ordinance where two sessions will be held. Lunch and dinner will be provided. More information, including how to register, will be available soon.

Session 1:
Date: Thursday, Aug. 25
