Housing Services holds Touch Up the Town event on October 7

The Housing Services Department held its second annual “Touch Up the Town” event on Friday, October 7, 2022, in the North Texas area of Fairfield at East Tabor Avenue to Dover Avenue, including Linear Park Trail.

The event consisted of a neighborhood clean-up and a free garbage dump day for neighborhood residents. Republic Services sponsored the free dump day by providing three dumpsters for trash, yard waste, and metal. The dump site location was hosted at Bethel Community Church. The church was also a sponsor and hosted the morning kick off breakfast and afternoon lunch. Local businesses in the area helped to sponsor the breakfast and lunch.

The 25 volunteers were briefed, given supplies, snacks, a Touch Up the Town tee shirt, and organized into teams. By noon, the cleanup work was completed, and the participants gathered at Bethel Community Church for a free lunch. City staff volunteers from various departments participated and provided support. The Public Works Department provided new lighting at Linear Park Trail and fixed potholes. The Homeless Engagement and Response Team (HEART) staffed the dump site and collected trash bags at the end of the event. Additional sponsors include La Charrita Market, Panderia La Mexicana, Super La Favorita Meat Market, El Azteca Mexican Food, Starbucks North Texas/East Travis, 7-Eleven East Tabor, Liquor Tree, Panderia La Mexicana, and Million Design Salon.

The Housing Services Department thanks everyone who participated and/or sponsored the event. It was a great example of community collaboration!
