Fairfield’s Communications Manager, Bill Way, discusses the dangers of fentanyl with Fairfield Police Detective Auldon Barker on his latest Words with Way podcast. LISTEN HERE

Detective Barker emphasizes that education, communication, and awareness about fentanyl are key to safeguarding our community. With the holiday season upon us, he warns about the threat of fentanyl being marketed by criminal drug networks to look like candy in a rainbow variety of colors to entice kids. They want people to become addicted, the younger – the better!

The Drug Enforcement Administration reports that 4 out of every 10 pills contains a potentially lethal dose of fentanyl, just 2 milligrams. DEA has issued a Public Safety Alert warning Americans of the alarming increase in the lethality and availability of fake prescription pills containing fentanyl and methamphetamine.

The Public Safety Alert coincides with the launch of DEA’s “One Pill Can Kill” public awareness campaign to educate the public of the dangers of counterfeit pills and urges all Americans to take only medications prescribed by a medical professional and dispensed by a licensed pharmacist.  Fake pills fact sheet
