Local author Dr. Camilla Hawthorne to speak at local library On February 25

Come celebrate Black History Month with a talk by local author Dr. Camilla Hawthorne on Saturday, February 25, 2023, from 2:00 to 3:00 PM at Fairfield Civic Center Library.

Hawthorne is an Associate Professor of Sociology and Critical Race & Ethnic Studies at UC Santa Cruz and program director and faculty member for the Black Europe Summer School in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

Camilla was born and raised in Fairfield, graduated from Armijo High School, and received her Ph.D. in geography from UC Berkeley. Her research and teaching focus on the racial politics of migration and citizenship, with an emphasis on Europe and the Mediterranean region.

She will be discussing her new book Contesting Race and Citizenship: Youth Politics in the Black Mediterranean (Cornell University Press, 2022).
