Frisco Approves 'Senior Tax Freeze', Raises Residential Homestead Exemption

All Frisco homeowners (with homestead status) will soon get a bigger break on their property tax bill. At Tuesday night's meeting, City Council unanimously voted to adopt a 12.5% residential homestead exemption. Plus, seniors, those Over 65 (and disabled), will get even more property tax relief in the form of a ‘senior tax freeze’.

The council adopted its first homestead exemption of 7.5% in 2017.  The following year, city council leaders raised the homestead exemption to 10%.  This year, staff recommended raising the exemption by 2.5%.

“Rising home values, as well as inflation, coupled with our aging city, market conditions and our strong, financial policies, make now a good time to implement a ‘senior freeze’ (Over 65 or disabled exemption),” said Jenny Hundt, Director of Budget and Strategic Planning.  “Those factors also make it possible for us to increase our homestead exemption to benefit all our homeowners.”
