Gaithersburg, MD – (September 20, 2022) At the Mayor and City Council meeting on Monday, September 19, 2022, Community Facility Manager Kristy King and the City Attorney’s Office were recognized with Employee Recognition Awards for the second quarter of calendar year 2022.

Made up of peers from each department, Gaithersburg’s Employee Recognition Committee (ERC) reviews nominations for individuals and teams on a quarterly basis. These winners are then eligible for the annual Employee and Team of the Year Awards.

Kristy King, Kentlands Mansion Community Facility Manager with the Department of Parks, Recreation and Culture, was named Employee of the Second Quarter for her outstanding work and support to staff and customers. She received four nominations that described her as consistently going above and beyond, despite the impact of the pandemic, staff shortages and changes, and increasing customer events. It was noted that Kristy serves as a true role model, exemplifying the best the City offers, leading staff with respect and always being available to help. She was highlighted as being among the first to recognize and appreciate staff accomplishments, demonstrating teamwork and creating a positive work environment while also serving to support customers with kindness and patience. Her exceptional service was described as a gift to employees and has also helped to establish Kentlands Mansion as a staple in the community.

The City Attorney’s Office, comprised of Lynn Board, Frank Johnson, Erick Perla, Lauren Klingler, and Wes Rhodes, was named the Team of the Second Quarter. The team was nominated for its assistance in providing drafts for contracts, advice at multiple levels and in assisting the Community Services Division in drafting and processing more than 25 nonprofit grant contracts. This included work by Paralegal Wes Rhodes along with input from others in creating templates for grant contracts as well as working through the contract approval process to ensure final execution. All members of the team have been available and responsive to Community Services staff throughout the grant process and have provided advice, assistance and other professional services contracts as well. The nomination emphasized appreciation for each staff member’s dedication and commitment to ongoing customer service.
