Gaithersburg Celebrates Financial Wellness Month with Educational Workshops

The City of Gaithersburg celebrates Financial Wellness Month in January with educational programs that help increase the financial stability and well-being of City residents. In recognition of this month, the Gaithersburg Financial Empowerment Center presents a virtual Financial Education Workshop series featuring experts from leading financial institutions and members of the Gaithersburg Financial Wellness Coalition.

Workshops are available in both English and Spanish. All sessions will take place from 7 to 8 p.m. To register, e-mail [email protected] with your name, e-mail address and what session(s) you would like to sign up for. A Zoom link will be sent to participants before each session.

Financial Wellness 101

Start the year off right by building financial wellness skills – including good spending and savings habits, creating a budget, and making your bank account work for you.

Managing Credit

Join us to learn about the importance of credit, credit scores, and proven tips for paying down credit card debt.                                                                                        

Budgeting and Savings

Improve your budgeting skills and learn how to make an actionable savings plan to achieve your goals. 

With a proclamation at their meeting on January 3, the Mayor and City Council officially proclaimed January as Financial Wellness Month in the City of Gaithersburg. View the meeting presentation here.

Financial Wellness Month is a time to assess finances, income, and debt and make plans to achieve financial goals. The City provides tools, education, and resources to support financial health for all Gaithersburg families. The Financial Wellness Coalition provides financial education and helps people access low-cost banking products. The City works with the Montgomery County Community Action Agency to provide free tax preparation at Casey Community Center, and the Gaithersburg Financial Empowerment Center provides free financial counseling that is helping residents pay down debt, improve credit scores, and use budgeting tools to save for the future.
