Gaithersburg, MD. - The unofficial start to summer over Memorial Day weekend includes the opening of the interactive water feature at Olde Towne Plaza. This inviting space in the City’s historic commercial center has a fountain for frolicking, benches for lounging, and shaded Adirondack chairs for relaxing.

Extensive renovations were made while the Plaza was closed during the pandemic. Improvements include better operational, health, and safety features, the installation of new pavers, and the addition of colorful lighting to the fountain jets. Party lights will soon be strung overhead to make the Plaza come to life at night. A ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the reopening took place on May 26, and new cultural and recreational programs are being planned for this unique space.

The interactive water feature operates Saturdays and Sundays and on Memorial Day Monday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. through June 16, and weekends only again from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. September 6 – 25. Throughout the summer, June 17 – September 5, it operates Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Saturdays and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. The water feature is closed on Mondays. A School’s Out Summer Celebration with special games and toys is scheduled for Friday, June 17, from 1 to 3 p.m.

Please note that technical issues and inclement weather can affect operations. Please call the adjacent Gaithersburg Community Museum at 301-258-6160 or check the Museum's Facebook page to verify that the water feature will be operational on the day of your visit.

Olde Towne Plaza is located next to the train station at the corner of Summit and Diamond Avenues in Olde Towne Gaithersburg. Free parking is available at the nearby Olde Towne Parking Garage and in surface lots throughout the area.
