Melodia Renaldi Named Gaithersburg Chorus Music Director

Gaithersburg, Md. (July 27, 2022) The City of Gaithersburg is pleased to announce that Melodia Renaldi will be joining the Gaithersburg Chorus as its new Music Director as of August 23, 2022. Melodia holds a Masters of Music degree in Conducting from Ithaca College and a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education from Towson University. She currently teaches most of the music programs at Gaithersburg Middle School and heads up the Drama Club. A passionate performer, Melodia appeared with the LUX Choir under the direction of Robby Napoli in 2021, and this year participated in the Atlanta Summer Conducting Institute. Melodia joins Accompanist/Co-Director Guzal Isametdinova in directing the Gaithersburg Chorus for its 35th year of providing music and entertainment for the residents of Gaithersburg.

The Gaithersburg Chorus is a non-audition ensemble class, open to those 16 years and older. At weekly Tuesday evening rehearsals, participants enjoy instruction on music theory, musicality and the mechanics of singing, including vocalization, voice control, proper breathing technique, and voice projection. The Chorus performs a variety of music, from classical to pop to Broadway and everything in between, with public concerts in the spring and winter. Students looking for volunteer opportunities can earn SSL hours for participating in the Chorus.

This program is funded in part by a grant from the Maryland State Arts Council (MSAC). To discover more about MSAC grants and how they impact Maryland's arts sector, visit msac.org.
