Gaithersburg, MD (June 27, 2022) – It’s time to get outside and rise up for Gaithersburg Parks, Recreation and Culture. Since 1985, America has celebrated July as Park and Recreation Month. A program of the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA), the goal is to raise awareness of the vital impact that parks and recreation have on communities across the U.S.

The Mayor and City Council will proclaim July as Parks and Recreation Month in the City of Gaithersburg at their meeting on July 5. The proclamation reminds Gaithersburg residents of the importance of parks and recreation facilities, programs, staff, and volunteers while encouraging everyone to embrace active lifestyles and improve their overall health.

“With this year’s theme, ‘We Rise Up for Parks and Recreation,’ Gaithersburg will be highlighting how our community is stronger, more vibrant and more resilient because of parks and recreation,” said Carolyn Muller, Director of the Gaithersburg Department of Parks, Recreation and Culture. “We will bring attention to how important it is to rise up and support parks and recreation staff and volunteers, as they rise up in service of equity, climate-readiness, and overall health and well-being.”

In celebration of Park and Recreation Month, the City is excited to introduce the Explore Gaithersburg! Park Passport in partnership with G-PARC. Participate by downloading a Park Passport here or picking one up at the Activity Center at Bohrer Park. Then, visit as many of the more than 30 parks scattered throughout Gaithersburg as you can.
