Public notice of comment for proposed 59th Street storage tank
This notice has been posted to inform the public that the City of Galveston is preparing to apply for Community Development Block Grant – Mitigation (CDBG-MIT) funding for the 59th Street Water Storage Tank Project and that public comment on this application is now open.

The project includes water storage tank improvements at the 59th Street Pump Station. Project improvements will increase City water storage capacity that will support potable water needs in case of emergency. The project consists of removing three deteriorating and out of service water tanks that are out of service and two of which are beyond their useful life, with a 7.5 (M/gal) tank that will last for the next 50 years. The new water storage tank, in combination with the two remaining operable tanks will result in a total water storage capacity of 19 million gallons of water. These improvements will benefit residents by improving access to clean water resources during emergency events. These improvements will also mitigate potential infrastructure failure during extreme weather events by ensuring the appropriate capacity levels to supply the requisite amount of pressure to keep water running through the system, reaching customers, and supplying emergency services (fire department, hydrants, and medical facilities) for the health and safety of our residents.
